Human Positioning System ™ is our name for our patented form of re-localization. We call it that because it really is using the most amazing spacial computing system in the world, the human mind. It’s more accurate than GPS, it works anywhere, it works in all kinds of circumstances where other systems will fail, and it does it quickly and easily with no need for repeated scanning of the location, QR codes, or Posters.
What does this mean for you? This means you can create AR anywhere with confidence, knowing that it’s going to work every time.
The video below shows how it works, but here’s a top-level explanation. Basically this method is just relying upon the fact that every photograph is a record of a precise location and orientation in space. Also humans are crazy-good at recognizing points of view in the world — i can show you a photo and you can say, “oh yeah, this is that house, but its from across the street” or whatever. You can then walk over to the POV that you see represented in the photo and membit shows you the point of view at transparency over the video feed so you can line it up. Most people have no problem doing this and anyone under 20 will do it without even being told what they’re supposed to do.
Once you’ve lined that photo up, we can then re-instantiate all of the AR assets and they’ll all be right where the person who created the experience wanted you to see them.
What does this enable ? It enables user generated content, and really quick but precise authoring anywhere. Some people take a minute to figure it out the first time, but in our experience once they’ve done it once they are off to the races — many people find it intrinsically fun like a little puzzle each time that unlocks the AR content.
